The Plan

TRAINING:

Horse drawn wagonBefore beginning our work in Uruguay, I will attend language training for approximately nine months.  This is tentatively planned to take place at Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburgh, Texas.  The community of Edinburgh is 85% spanish speaking only, so I will be going through immersion training on U.S. soil.  Mary will not need language training, but will use the time to refresh her knowledge of the language. Our desire is to have 100% of our support in place by early 2010.

REQUIRED SUPPORT:

Much of our support requirements are subject toBridge to Maldonado the fluctuations between the U.S. Dollar and the Uruguayan Peso.  Baptist World Mission requires that we keep certain accounts for foreseeable ministry expenses, medical insurance, housing, and retirement in addition to our salary.  The salary portion of our support is $1,989 per month; however, ministry funds and administration are in addition to this amount.  Please pray and carefully consider supporting our family as we seek to win the lost people of Uruguay for Christ.

EVANGELISM:

Once on the field and following language training, our plan is to begin working with established missionaries Barry and Barbara Secrest in order to learn the unique cultural differences of living in Uruguay.  After that, as the Lord leads, we will begin our efforts to plant a church in one of the communities surrounding Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, and along the coast east oMilitary Heritagef the capital.  Brother Secrest has an established seminary and a “pipeline” of “preacher boys”, and our desire, together with Barry, is to plant churches that are indigenous from their establishment.  Our evangelism efforts will initially be focused on the use of prepared Christian literature and “street” evangelism.  We will also, make use of “friendship” evangelism among the people we interact with daily.  With this two pronged approach, our desire is to start a Bible study in our home with a core group of believers.  As that group grows, we will seek to create a local independent Baptist church under the shepherding of a trained national pastor.  As this church matures, we will look to repeat this process in another suburb of the city.
